F-CELL Roadster – trainees build a car of the future Mercedes-Benz Roadster F-CELL studying the concept, young people unite tradition and high technology, alternative drive system as the topic of training. In a unique project to date to bridge the various fields of profession, the participants of Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz factory in Sindelfingen have built Roadster with fuel cell dri ve. For about a year, more than 150 trainees and students of the dual education system works on the overall concept, development, assembly, and completion Roadster F-SEL. This project involves junior employees from the field of automotive mechatronics, model-building, electronics, coating technology, mechanics, manufacturing, product design, and interior appointments. The main objective of this project is to integrate the topic of alternative propulsion systems to training with experience.
“This project is an impressive show that the topic of sustainable mobility has become an integral part of our vocational training,” said a member of the Board of Human Resources and Labor Relations Manager GA ¼ nther Fleig. “I am delighted to see how much initiative and creativity of young people have put into this project.”
Tradition meets the future
The Roadster F-CELL unique technology combines state-of-the-art with a history of construction vehicles. As a reference to the Benz Patent Motor Car of 1886, vehicles equipped with large spoked wheels. In addition, the Roadster F-CELL style combines elements from various eras of automotive history, such as carbon fiber bucket seats with hand-stitched leather cover and distinctively stylish fiberglass front, based on the component of Formula One racing bolides.
The Roadster F-SEL is controlled by technology, drive-by-wire, and the joystick takes the place of the conventional steering wheel. The vehicle is powered by a system of emissions-free fuel cells located at the rear.
